INTERNAL CARVING IN ACRYLIC FISH ART FISHING TROPHIES ACRYLIC AWARDS
A LITTLE ABOUT WHAT I DO

The material I work in is solid acrylic, and I am using a technique called internal
or reverse carving. Using a hand held die grinder (22,000 RPM) and a variety of
drills, bits, and burrs, the images you see are carved directly into the back or bottom of the piece. Holding the acrylic in one hand, the grinder is maneuvered
with the other to make deep undercuts and delicate details that result in a
three dimensional image that will pick up light and create shadow.
The designs with color have been painted by hand, in reverse, using
enamel paints and small brushes.
The blocks of acrylic are shaped by hand as well. They are cut on a table saw or band saw, then scraped and sanded fine before taking them to a buffing wheel for the polished finish.
A hammer and chisel are used to achieve the “cracked ice” effect.
Just thought you should know.
